Zigbee Project

Are you an Engineering student and want to do project using zigbee technology? Then, first try to know something about zigbee(coz when you submit the project, they may ask you some questions regarding zigbee)


What is Zigbee?
Just like bluetooth and wifi which are used for wireless communication,ZIGBEE is one of the wireless techniques.
For Bluetooth IEEE standard is 802.15.1
For wifi, IEEE standard is 802.11 ( as well as 802.11a,802.b,802.11g)
For Zigbee, IEEE standards is 802.15.4
Zigbee is disigned for working for a short distance ie 50 m ( 5m to 500 m maximum)
Because of short distance, the power consumption is low, price is also low.
What about speed? It is also low. ie 20kbps to 250 kbps
But how zigbee is able to survive against wifi and bluetooth?
It is suitable for remote control like building automation,healthcare,industrial control.
By the way, to send a file, you may need high speed data transfer, but just to switch off and switch on an equipment, speed is immaterial. But the signal should be reliable. right?
Yeah right. Then go for zigbee for such applications.


How can you say, it consumes less power? 
The duty cycle is just 0.1% of total time. Actually, it uses pulsewith modulation technque.
Suppose you want to control the speed of a motor using this remote control, the you may be increasing the pulse width of the signal.


Which frequency is used by zigbee?

2.4Ghz ism band is used for zigbee.
800something mhz and 900something mhz are also used in some countries (forget this point)

What type of modulation technique is used by zigbee?
DSSS with 11chips/symbol.

Is it working on master slave concept? yes.

How multiple equipments can work? 
By using CSMA/CA. In this method, every node will get its timeslot.

When a data is sent wireless, normally it will be encrypted.what about zigbee?
Yes,  128 bit symmetric encryption  is done.




Finally one question? how this name zigbee came?

zigbee refers to the waggle dance of honey bees after their return to the beehive.
