Tip No. 1 : Check the splitter to find out whether the terminations are correct. and you should not bypass the splitter
adsl works better only if the distance between your home and the telephone exchange is less than 4 km. |
Tip no. 2 : Check the Quality of line between your home and the Exchange
If the distance is more ;then higher frquency will be easily attenuated and because of the this, frequency
range used by the modem will become less which means the speed becomes less.
If the cable running between your home and the exchange is having probllems such as loose contact, then also the speed reduces or totally it may not work. The quality of the line can be easily checked by you.
You have to find out what is the signal quality received by your end. it is called as SNR or signal to noise ratio.
How to measure snr?
open brower > type 192.168.1.1. it is will ask for username password. type admin/admin or admin/password (for utstar modem it may be admin/utstar). By given username and password, enter into the modem configuration. if the above username password is not working, do google search for "default username and password " for your modem.
when you log in you will get the following information:
in the above case, the snr is 23 db. If it is above 20db it will work perfectly fine.Even just more than 10db is enough for proper working.
Tip 3: Check the WAN IP address dynamically assigned by your ISP.
If the modem has been configured with correct user name and password and if the telephone line is ok then your modem will be able to get the WAN ip address from your ISP. Check the WAN ip address .The screen shot is given here:
In the above screen shot, the modem has obtained 117.217.190.133 from its isp.
and status is CONNECTED.
