MP3 How it works

Question:
MP3 stands for...............?
How MP3 compresses a song of 30MB to just 3MB?

Answers:

MP3 stands for MPEG 1 Audio Layer 3. It is a sub system of MPEG. MPEG stands for MOVIING PICTURE EXPERTS GROUP.
What is Audio Layer 3?.  Audio has 3 layers that is  3 versions. Layer 3 is the recently developed version.  For backward compatibility, old versions (layer 1 and layer 2) can also be played by the Player.

How MP3compresssion takes place?
Sampling rate of  44100 per sec
multiplied by
16bit per sample
multiplied by  2 speakers
which equal to 1411.2 kbps

(In telecommunications, the speech is encoded at a rate of 64 kbps. Hence its quality is very less when compared to MP3)

MP3 uses PERCEPTUAL NOISE SHAPING technique. This technique uses the characteristics of human ear
What is the characteristics of humar ear:
1. human ear cannot hear certain sounds
2. When t two sounds are received simultaneously, ear hears the louder one. it cannot hear the softer one. So such irrelavant sounds will be maksed by MP3.
In addition to the above technique, normal data compression also used to compress the song.

a fancy mp3/m4 player
